Milnor Fire Department

Shortly after Milnor was organized, the need for fire protection
was realized and the necessary action was taken to provide
equipment. The actual date of organization is not known but it is
believed to be before 1900. Records indicate that Milnor has the
second oldest rural fire department in the State of North Dakota.
The fire department started with two chemical units that were
pulled to fires by horses. As the years passed, new equipment
was purchased to replace that which was outworn and outdated.
In March of 1946, a new truck was discussed and purchased. In
January 1952, another truck was purchased to be used in the rural
areas. A drive was put on with townships and individual farmers
giving money for this new unit.
The city of Milnor has their own volunteer fire department which
is the only fire department in the county with the "jaws of life"
at their disposal.
At the present time, the fire department has two trucks, two water
tankers and another truck Currently, the Milnor Volunteer Fire
Department has over 30 members and volunteers are always welcome.

Milnor Harris Lunneborg Field and Airport
The Milnor Municipal Airport has recently been renamed the
Milnor Harris Lunneborg Field and although it may be considered
small, we are proud that many private planes use the facility. The
local flying club, Milnor Aviation Inc., uses the airport on a regular
basis and each year holds a fly-in breakfast to raise funds for
improvements and upkeep for the club’s airplane. In the past
two years they have added a new lighting system for safer nighttime
and bad weather landings, fuel tanks, rural water and a courtesy car
to be used by individuals flying into the airport.
